ABOUT OUR PRACTICE
The Balanced Self was founded by Evan Wise in 2021 in Montreal, QC with the aim of fostering a space for growth, health and creative wellbeing in our community. Through the exploration of our internalized habits, both physical and mental, we learn to open doors to a life of increasingly effective movement and thinking. At the Balanced Self we use principles developed by F.M. Alexander to teach our clients to foster a state of deeper coordination, ease, and health through conscious movement and thought.
THE ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE
The Alexander Technique is a century old method of re-coordinating an individual's body and mind. Through verbal instruction and hands on experience the student discovers their reliance on unhelpful habits creating undue tension in the psycho-physical system. Over an ongoing series of lessons we learn how to appraise and bypass unhelpful patterns of movement, leading to more ease and freedom. Whether you are experiencing chronic pain, are looking to refine performance as an artist or athlete, or simply want to improve your physical and mental wellbeing, The Alexander Technique offers you a new relationship to yourself.
THE BALANCED MUSICIAN
The Balanced Musician is a 10 week course designed to help musicians move past mental and physical blocks, performance anxiety, and build a positive relationship with their music and instrument. We will employ methods of the Alexander Technique, Yoga, Effortless Mastery, and Evan's extensive depth of knowledge on approaching playing and creativity.
Lessons are offered for all ages and any level. Each class is tailored to each student's needs, whether you're just starting out or looking to take your playing from the bedroom to the stage.
